INVITATION FROM THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR AND REGIONAL HEALTH ADMINISTRATOR
Dear Community Partner:
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council is in the process of developing a National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy. The goal of this strategy is to shift the national focus from sickness and treatment to a primary focus on prevention and wellness.
To further this effort, the Council is engaging with stakeholders to shape and implement the Strategy. Stakeholders include the public, community-based organizations, practitioners in the public and private sectors, and federal, state, regional, local, and tribal officials who work in public health. If you are engaged in prevention and wellness activities, we need your assistance!
The HHS Region IV offices of the Regional Director and Regional Health Administrator are assisting the Council in gathering stakeholder input by hosting a strategy session on November 8 at the DeKalb Board of Health, Bohan Auditorium, 445 Winn Way, Decatur, Georgia. During this strategy session, you’ll hear about promising prevention and health promotion strategies currently in place in our Region. You will also be asked to provide us with your recommendations on: What should be the priorities for the Council and the National Strategy? How can the Council partner with local stakeholders to support and help focus prevention efforts? What experiences have you had with federal prevention and health programs or policies that could serve as a model for our work moving forward?
Please plan to join us for some refreshments and interesting dialogue. Send your registration to <www.arhf.net> by November 5.
You can also review additional information on this topic and strategy at the web site: http://www.healthcare.gov/center/councils/nphpphc/stakeholder/index.html, including: the PowerPoint presentation, participant input sheet, a fact sheet on the National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy, and the facilitator feedback form. You may also submit your comments to prevention.council@hhs.gov.
Thank you so much for your interest and support!
Sincerely,
Anton Gunn, Regional Director
Clara Cobb, Regional Health Administrator
